Lightbox Image Gallery Wordpress Plugin - Add Some Sparkle to your galleries

I love the lightbox javascript library, but I was having the hardest time getting it to work with Wordpress. I finally figured it out with some help from these plugins

The problem I found with all the other lightbox plugins was that they had no image uploader so I had to make the gallery and maually add the lightbox viewer. So I added an uploader and an easy way to add the gallery to the blog post or blog page.
Admin Sections:

To install the plugin, upload the entire lightbox_gallery folder to your plugin directory. Then activate it. The admin section will be under the options tab as "Lightbox".

How to Use:
- Make a gallery. All photos have to go into a gallery so first thing to do is "add gallery". Once you add a gallery, you can upload images to it. You can delete and move the photos from one gallery to another in the edit section.
- Once you have a gallery, just add [GALLERY=X] where X is the gallery id. The gallery id will be visible in the admin section. It must be capitalized!
Notes:
If you upload an image that is smaller then the desired max width, the image will not be resized.
It seems the page has to fully load before the lightbox will work. I'm looking into this.
If there is other javascript on the page, like a mybloglog widget or meebo, the lightbox will appear behind it…I'm working on this…no biggie, IMO.
It looks a lot better in Safari and Firefox, then IE7…but then again, most things do!
Safari, is quickly becoming my new favorite browser.

Nicely done, Matt! Your Lightbox gallery works great in IE6, while the one I have on our wedding site doesn’t. If I can’t get it to work, expect me to show up at your house with a large coffee and a tool to extract the information out of that big brain of yours.

June 26th, 2007 at 4:27 pmOops, I hate when that happens! Unfortunately, according to Google Analytics, about 30% of all the visitors across my few sites used IE6. That’s a pretty high number of users to blow off.

June 27th, 2007 at 8:57 pmGreat plugin! I finally have something that works, I’ve tried many different plugins… and it sits on top of the other Java stuff on the page. Dead simple.
One problem I have noticed is that the thumbnails are not being created properly, some are half filled with black/other half photo. It happens when creating thumbnails of tall narrow (portrait) photos (which I notice you have none on this demo page!). I have to change the thumbnail size to similar width/height ratio as photo to get proper image fill.
Would be nice if had the option to delete galleries, and change order of images in gallery too…
But I have no right to be fussy!

I used your plugin as well, and it work nice.. But (there must be one ha;)), but i have the same thumbnail problem, the landscape-style pictures makes nice tumbs, but the portrait-style make half black thumbs… any solutions at hand or an idea where to find this mishappening?

July 8th, 2007 at 4:20 pmI fixed the problem with the black box on portrait style images. I have not tested it on really narrow images yet. I also noticed that it squishes landscape image that are really long.
I’ll fix it later, just a little busy right now…
go ahead and download it from the widget page again.

I must be doing something wrong. I follow the instructions to the letter but all I get is [GALLERY=1] writtian in my post as text and not a gallery. I freshly uploaded the images into the gallery in the admin panel.

1. do you have to add images one at the time, or can one upload a .zip or mebbe just upload via ftp?
2. would u consider adding a watermark option for this? would be great!

Thanks for the plugin. I think I got it setup correctly. However, when I want to populate a gallery, browse to a picture on my hard drive and press ‘add photo’ the screen goes white and nothing happens. Any clues? I am using firefox by the way…

I checked out planetlucid, but the images in the link are missing? do you think that might be the problem.
Also this plugin has been accepted by wordpress to be listed at wordpress plugin site. I’m setting up the subversion so developers will be able to access the code and extend it. Should be good!

Hey, looks great on your page. I have a problem though and was hoping you could tell me what I am doing wrong. I installed and activated the plugin as instructed. I created a new gallery of two images for testing and made a new post with the gallery. I see the two thumbnails but when I click on one of them, I get the full size image in a new html page rather then the “lightbox” effect.
September 18th, 2007 at 6:59 pmChris, make sure the page have fully loaded and then see if it works. If you are sure that the page fully loads and it still does not popup…there is a problem with the paths to your javascript files.

GREAT PLUGIN.. but I uploaded it to “wordpress” directory while creating a new layout, then moved everything into the root directory when I was done. Now when I go to upload a photo into a gallery I get an error msg that says “: Call to undefined function: imagecreatetruecolor() in /home//html/wp-content/plugins/lightbox_gallery/lb_plugin.php on line 588″
Any idea of how I can fix this? I tried uploading the lb_plugin.php again and that didnt work..

Looks like you do not have the gd libraries installed on your host. Try to get them to install them. It will not work without gd. gd is used to alter the images and make the thumbnails.

Or esle, can u say where the pictures are uploadded, and how they are named into gallreies. I want to add pictures via ftp. It is more fast than waiting for pictures to upload one by one.And, Matt, AWESOME PLUGIN. I installed lightbox plugin, 4 differentone, and the 5th one worked - and it is this one! Please do reply about the ftp uploading matter. Realyy, it is triple fast than the normal way for me.

I believe however you need to use the web uploader as opposed to dumping your pictures into the images folder via ftp for the plugin to work

May 19th, 2008 at 8:37 pmeverything was working fine, and now there cool effects on the plugin are no longer active. When I click an image in the gallery, I am simply taken to another page, with the image shown in full size, no effects whatsover. I have removed and re-installed the plugin, and then all my plugins, and still no luck. Any help?
